Hello guys!

My name is Heitor Silva, I'm from Brazil.

Ray found me through my blog and asked me to share my opinion about Zurmo... I got so interested in the project that I want to contribute translating to Brazilian Portuguese and developing for the core team.

I have experience with PHP, Python and Ruby. Also CakePHP, Django and Rails.
Hope to have fun times with this team...

It's good to have a Brazilian Portuguese translation aside from the one that already exists. Usually the word "portuguese" by itself is linked with Portugal, not Brazil (when the subject is i18n), and the languages are quite different.

Let me know how to start properly.

Best regards

Glad to hear you want to get started. Sacha Telgenhof is running the language translations so he can help you there. In the meantime ping me on skype so we can talk more.

Hey Team,

I'm new to Zurmo and would like to be part of this community. I've been in the CRM business for over 10 years and have seen a lot come and go. I was approached by a small client recently to find an easy-to-use, mobile-ready, affordable CRM to run her business. I didn't want to trim back a bloated Sugar or the like. And I am thrilled to have come across you guys. Zurmo has quickly moved to the top of my list.

I do have a couple concerns that have not really been addressed in the FAQs or anywhere else I can find. If this is not the right spot to ask, let me know and I'm happy to repost elsewhere.

Hosting options at DotBlock, but anywhere else?

I see A LOT of issues with setup, but have not been able to find a walkthrough or admin guide anywhere so I can evaluate my current environment as a possible option for hosting. Any ideas?

Thanks guys, I look forward to finding my way into Zurmo.

Raz

Welcome to Zurmo. Did you look at the various installation guides linked from the download page? Regarding hosting, we offer hosting as well. Please private message Ray Stoeckicht for more information on hosting.

Hi folks!

Got an email from Ray with information about this project. As an opensource fan and currently not in a project I of course got interested in Zurmo - to add up I also use vTiger quite a bit and it's kind of sucky so what could be better than be involved in a better CRM project myself?

Some background, been developing PHP apps for about 7 years now - constantly improving and learning new stuff. I'm a huge fan of the Symfony project but I have some experience in Yii so I don't think that will harm my stay here. Besides PHP I also enjoy Python and Ruby (Django and Rails mostly). C++ has been on my desk since I started programming but it never really kicked of, but I know some C++ - not at all as good as I know PHP / Python / Ruby tho.

Hmm, what more - I really enjoy jQuery, I think it is a great framework for a sloppy language. I also think Haskell is a great language, quite fun to write code in! As you might understand I enjoy trying new languages and new things and I really enjoy reading and learning them :)

Anyway, Zurmo felt like my cup of tea and I'm looking forward to contribute to the project in anyway I can!
If you got questions just shoot and I'll give you an answer ;)

You all have a great day!

Hi Jesper,
I thought you might be a solid developer to introduce the project to and you are exactly the kind of technical expert we could get solid feedback and contribution from. I'm so appreciative of your willingness to help out. Just emailed you a few steps that will get you ramped up and familiar with Zurmo so that you will be able to assist. Did you pick out a team you would like to help with: http://zurmo.org/get-involved

Hi Val,
We are very appreciative of your willingness to help with the project. We have a repo for Russian translation, but there has not been much progress. Perhaps you can bring the translation to life!

Hello Sergio,
It is so amazing to get such support from the open source community. You are welcomed to the Zurmo community and look forward to working alongside you. Your experience with CakePHP will help you to learn Yii and Zurmo at the same time. We could use some help with our Portuguese translation as our current repo is empty: http://hg.zurmo.org/messages-pt

We would be happy to have you join the development team. I emailed you a few items that will get you better familiar with Zurmo.
Thanks,

Hi everyone,

My name is Wissam. I live in Lebanon. I've being working several years on PHP and I've also passed by other programming languages like Ruby, Visual Basic, C++, ASP.Net, ActionScript 2 etc.
and softwares like 3D Max, Maya, SPSS, Photoshop, Illustrator etc.
I've also worked on graphic design tasks and on the front-end using Dojo, jQuery, HTML5, CSS3, mobile responsive designs, HTML e-mail designs etc.
I spend my time learning new APIs and new platforms in different programming languages.
I'm a self-taught web programmer. I finished my Masters in Logistics last year and I work currently as a Visual Developer, far from the Business world !
I'm a huge fan of open-source products (Linux distros etc.) and I try my best to boycott Microsoft technologies on a daily basis.

I'll be glad to help you guys on the front-end (UI) and on building new features related to social APIs (Facebook Open Graph, Twitter etc.). I can also work on translating the website to French and Arabic.

Best regards,

Wissam

Welcome! I think the best way to get started is to help do an Arabic translation. This is an easier task that will get you involved with Zurmo. Additionally since you are more interested in front-end work, if you can run the functional tests locally to get familiar with how Selenium works, that would be great. I would encourage you to come to one of our developer sessions that you find on the Calendar. To start with the translation work, look in the yii/i18n/data folder and let me know which 2 or 4 letter code is for the arabic you will be translating. I think maybe 'ar' is generic arabic and we should probably use that? Please confirm.

Hi all,

My name is Mihai and I just moved to Australia from Romania. I have been a web programmer for around 10 years now (on and off) and after working with a company made framework and making my own simple framework I decided to see what is out there and I came across Yii. After playing with Yii I wanted to study a good application made in Yii and so I came across Zurmo.

I really like the Zurmo code and I am looking forward to getting involved in the community. I will also go into the get involved section to see how my skills can be used.

I am a strong advocate for Open Source and this is my way of getting back (and improving myself in the same time) to the big open source community that has given me so much.

I can help with a Romanian translation if needed (in Romania most programs are used in English anyway) but I would like to help more with making some "How To"s for people that want to develop their own custom modules on Zurmo.

My ultimate goal with Zurmo is to create in it all the tools I need to easily develop a complex website.

Hi Folks,

Been looking for a good open source crm to be able to provide easy access from various CMS's and custom databases. I am looking forward to looking(or creating) imports and exports or plugin's and to see how easy that all will be.

Thanks

Great. You should really review some of the unit tests in module/imports, because you can also easily make import jobs that run via cron or scheduled tasks. As you get farther along i can provide some additional examples.

Hi, my name is Tiur, I'm from Indonesia.

Our company was consultant for SugarCRM, but currently we didn't give service for sugarcrm. We focus to other solutions.

Anyway, we are looking CRM for our internal purpose. We had SugarCRM installed and used, but the adoption is not too good. Maybe because the UI is not simple.

Then i found about zurmo through google, and we decided to replace SugarCRM with zurmo.

Great work guys. Hope you could find your suitable business model, so Zurmo would have sustainable growth.

my name is Nick and I would be interested in helping you translate Zurmo in Greek. Please give me some more details how to start working on this.
I also work with Yii for about 1.5 year and this project is very close to the technologies that I'm currently working and looks great.

Hi Tiur,
Thank you for the kind words and I'm happy to see that you are using Zurmo for internal use. Please keep us updated on the progress and how the transition from Sugar to Zurmo goes. We do not have as many features as SugarCRM (not yet...), but we are focusing on development that creates a positive and encouraging end user experience. With our simple UI and gamification paradigm, Zurmo will engage and allow end users to enjoy their CRM experience. We would welcome any end user feedback and recommendations you can make to better improve the app. I'm sure your end users will have things they would like to see in the system. We always keep end user input in mind when prioritizing our development roadmap: http://zurmo.org/roadmap
