Opportunities connected to leads?

Hello,

 

My understanding of CRM is that a lead is a potential new customer, prior to qualification. Once qualified we would convert the lead to an account and contact so that we can then send them a quote.

 

In Zurmo, opportunities have the following stages:

  • Prospecting
  • Qualification
  • Negotiation
  • Verbal
  • Closed Won
  • Closed Lost

In my opinion, the first two (prospecting and qualification) are more suited to leads than contacts, unless we're dealing with an existing customer and this is an upsell/cross-sell. At the moment you can only choose an account to connect to an opportunity.

 

I think it makes sense to either be able to select a lead/contact next to an opportunity (rather than an account), or maybe simpler programmatically is to be able to assign an account to a lead which in turn can then be connected to an opportunity. There's many reasons for this but mainly that I think that it is possible to have an opportunity in the prospecting and qualification stages which by definition should actually be connected to a lead and not a contact.

 

Does that make sense?
