Selecting Catalog item doesn't trigger workflow

Having a problem on one of our environments where using the select catalog item from the product portlet on a Contact does not result in a workflow for a product save being triggered. This is only happening in one environment, I can't replicate the problem anywhere else.


Edit - There seems to be an issue when adding a product from a contact record page. If the contact name is changed to be any other contact (or the contact is an account contact), the record can be saved otherwise the Contact label gets change to red and the save is prevented with no other error on screen or in the logs. I can save the new product record for that contact directly from the product page, or via another contact record.


It's as if the contact record is being locked but I can't figure out why.


Anybody seen this or have an idea where I should start looking?
