Hi,

 

Would like to know whether Zurmo can check duplicated account when user create one??

It is an important feature which is needed when record was created by different sales team.

 

Use Case:

Sales A found opportunity on Company A. She is going to create the account for Company A.

However, she don't know that Company A is already existed in the system! therefore duplicate accounts are created....

 

It is better if there is alert when she create one account with same company name (or some other fields). Can Zurmo team study on it? Thanks.

We will create duplicate check for Contacts/Leads based on email address. We may use other identifiers such as exact matches on first name and last name. It is unlikely that we will create a duplicate check for Accounts. It is better if you train your users to search for Accounts before creating a new one. That is a simple training issue.

Ray: I personally have a different view on this. Although training is always essential, there are certain things humans are not good at and that is being disciplined and organised. Working in an international organization, we experience that every day. With our CRM implementation last year we deliberately implemented a duplication check on our accounts. Having users check manually if an account already exists, was not an option for our user base.

 

We are even considering using an external data provider for our customer names and addresses (e.g. Dun & Bradstreet).

I see where you are coming from. We may circle back on this down the road and add duplicate check for Accounts. Right now, we have so many releases and so many features we are trying to produce that we have our hands full. The first phase of duplicate check will be with email address on Contacts/Leads. That is the easiest and most effective since two people cannot have the same email address. The next phase would be first name/last name on Contacts/Leads. The next phase might be Accounts, although what happens when someone creates "ABC Company" or "ABC Inc." or "ABC Incorporated" or "ABC Co." All of these would not get caught by the duplicate check which is why it is good to have users trained on searching for an Account first and if it does not exist, create it.

Understood. I think even a simple warning message like "Account ABC Inc. already exists. Are you sure you want to add this account?" would be a good start. Something that the user is being made aware of. Sacha
